Me Too

The Me Too movement begun in India after Tunushree Datta accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her and since then, the pendulum has kept on swinging. With actresses or common people accusing, actors, directors, producers trying to defend themselves, the accused being trolled on social media, no one could escape from its clutches.

Many renowned names have come up ever since. This also led to a wave of Feminism which has finally hit India. Twitter was flooded with tweets, Instagram users had their stories filled with polls defending or accusing eminent personalities. Lengthy messages on Whatsapp circulated, Pinterest saw creation of several Pins with Feminist quotes, videos of women speaking up went viral on Youtube thus, not leaving any stone unturned to spread awareness for the cause.

The mockery, taunts, insults and embarrassment faced for all these years led to the choking up of emotions, thoughts, opinions and views. However, the positive effect seen amongst the citizens was an awakening, a revival and a newly born spirit, motivating girls and women alike to speak up and stop any kind of harassment. May it be in the form of mental, emotional, physical or sexual.

Being alert citizens, it is our duty to protest as well as protect the victims. We must report to the police or the concerned authority. In the 21st century, being weak is no longer an option. So, women too, should be able to defend themselves and not shy away but come out and speak openly without any fear. Let us work together and work to develop our society and in turn our nation.
