Me Too

Image
The Me Too movement begun in India after Tunushree Datta accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her and since then, the pendulum has kept on swinging. With actresses or common people accusing, actors, directors, producers trying to defend themselves, the accused being trolled on social media, no one could escape from its clutches.       Many renowned names have come up ever since. This also led to a wave of Feminism which has finally hit India. Twitter was flooded with tweets, Instagram users had their stories filled with polls defending or accusing eminent personalities. Lengthy messages on Whatsapp circulated, Pinterest saw creation of several Pins with Feminist quotes, videos of women speaking up went viral on Youtube thus, not leaving any stone unturned to spread awareness for the cause.        The mockery, taunts, insults and embarrassment faced for all these years led to the choking up of emotions, thoug...

The New Me!!

I decided to update my blog and now I'll be posting about literally everything!!!! So, basically I've gotten rid of all the boring and cliche blogs. After identifying that my true potential lies in presenting ideas in a satirical, (funny) manner and writing inspirational blogs, I decided to stick with it and let go of my setbacks. From today, I'll be posting only whatever I like! Also, 'Girl with Ink' has a nice ring to it and many friends too have liked the name. I loved the topic ' The new me!!' and have decided to explore it. Hope ya'll like it.      Many times, we tend to forget ourselves and get lost in the race. We end up choosing subjects, projects and make friends with people who may not be our type and we find ourselves losing the 'me' part. At times we go on pushing ourselves to work or act the way we find it socially desirable. We tend to follow others and try to be like them. All this ends up choking up the 'real me...

Dreams Explained

Image
Dreams: Some horribly twisted short stories which at times tend to become nightmares as the story progresses.      My dreams are simply stupid. The other day, I dreamt that I was eating a cheeseburger which for some unfathomable reason turns into my arch rival and I quite happily eat her up practicing cannibalism. (Wow. This must be the first time in human history that cheeseburger, unfathomable and cannibalism is used in a sentence!)          So, as I was saying, my dreams are moderately stupid. Some person who has a degree in dreams (ignore the sarcasm) has said that we tend to dream about the things we thought about while we were going to sleep. I beg to differ milord. I went to sleep thinking about my mobile's ever extincting storage and woke up sweating from head to toe as I dreamt about the Nun standing in my balcony and I swear to god I didn't even open the door of balcony for an entire goddamned week. ...

Unplug!!

Image
About a year Dwayne Johnson made a commercial for iPhone 7 in which he gets all his work done with the help of Siri. Literally he asks her the appointments scheduled, best routes to reach his destination and also about the weight of some ingredient he needed to make celebrity Chef Ludo's dish. Well, I guess that's what people generally keep secretaries for, but by all means why not spend a fortune on some electronic device and substitute a good old fellow of the same species?       The mere fact that AI (artificial intelligence) or technology have attained such accuracy in a few seconds makes us question whether it is better to choose humans over "new" electronic gadgets having the sympathizing quotient as much as a rock has.(No. Not Dwayne Johnson again. The normal rock.) Stopping and asking people for routes is way better than the frustrating electronic voice technology which misunderstands every word and speaks in a heavy acc...

Beware, it's ma soeur!

Image
' Ma soeur' means my sister in French. Alas, my French does not happen to be at par so, it could also mean serial killer or a cow. Whatever. Let's assume it means sister and get started.             My cousin sister stays at the other side of the world. That is the US of A. She is funny, vague, hysterical, emotional, bookaholic. In short a lot like me and somewhat like you. So, this fabulous cousin of mine had come for a month or so and left around a month or so. Naturally, whenever she comes it's a party!             The day begun gloomily, as I awoke cursing the Earth for rotating a bit too fast for my taste. Rubbing my eyes, I stifled a yelp as my fingertips came away red and black. Great. Forgot to remove eye liner and eye shadow. Again. After washing my face with the same scrub thrice did the makeup completely go leaving my skin as smooth as a cactus. I poured some milk while I grabbed a newspaper. The headline...

The only time my friends were correct

Image
Every evening I am compelled to take up the task of dragging all my friends on the ground to play. We all differ in caste, age and thoughts but are bound to each other by this very thin yet strong rope of friendship. And yet constantly keep plotting against each other. We played different sports in different seasons. By which I refer to the seasons determined by nature and those by us, humans.         During IPL(Indian Premier League), our hands and wallets are forced to be massaged hoping to bring back the lost strength and money due to constantly lifting the bat, for we bat out of order and practice match fixing with the bowlers in the exchange of several chocolates or packets of chips. Since the IPL takes place every summer, balls are wacked out of the compound in broad daylight thus, ensuring our wallets never regain their original amount.          Monsoon leaves us with clipped toenails and torn shoes...

Teacher's Day - speech

Image
Teacher’s day                  Good morning to one and all present here. Today, we all have gathered here on the occasion of teacher’s day. This is the day to recall the humongous contribution of our teachers in molding our personality and express our gratitude for the quest of spreading knowledge which they have undertaken voluntarily not for making a tiny sum but for the sake of creating an alert vigilant creative and practical minded generation.                                 A teacher is our guide. A priest showing us the path to the temple of knowledge. He is an enlightened soul who fulfils our thirst for knowledge. It’s he who never left our hand and helped us in times of difficulties and despair. It’s he who beams proudly at our accomplishments and at times when we met our goals and aims.   ...

The Hot Afternoon

The following story is written from first person's point of view.                   The sun was on my head. My mother-in-law was taking a nap in the bedroom. She had not been informed about the recent turn of activities. She slept oblivious to the commotion. I was sweating profusely but did not go in for I was worried about the safety of my daughter.                 The date is 10th June 1947. I heard that India is getting divided according to civilians' religion. Hence, they were protesting on streets burning railways, ransacking British stations and many more horrendous activities were starting to crop up. Our home was safe as my husband had openly announced that he was against the partition.               Right now he was miles away from home trying to get help in Britain. Against my husband's wishes I wasn't too fond of ...

Why I don't go to supermarkets....

Image
'You are late again! Why can't you come little earlier?", I said for the hundredth time. This was a typical Friday and Saturday senario. As usual my mom was late to pick me from my Kathak class. "Why can't you come on cycle if you have so much problem?", she said not willing to admit that she had overslept. Again. "Fine. I'll take the cycle from next class." I say raising my hands surrendering. I sit on the scooty as we zig zag our way through the Saturday traffic. We missed the lane leading to our apartment. "Our building was behind." I say. "I know you got an A in Geography but we are going to the supermarket."  "Woah! How come I am being dragged in this?" I question. My parents are coming to stay with us for a fortnight the last thing I want them to say is we live in a cave." she answered. I am about to point out that all our cabinets are overflowing with stuff and they flood our house when we open...

The Horror Movie

Image
It was a hot summer morning. After two hours of playing cricket, everyone was tired and we sat on two benches. Exhausted and sweaty, we made an odd group of friends with a smooth, creamy and cool chocobar in everyone's hand contradicting our state.  Me and my 7 friends hungrily gobbled up the ice-cream, thinking of it as a reward for our undying efforts of playing  in the blazing mid-may heat. it's already 12pm by the time we decide to go home, most of it just to catch a glimpse of a fan rotating at a terrifying speed( in which you are sure that the fan is going to fall on you with a large chunk of the ceiling) while we stand underneath it and also to eat the sweet, juicy mango syrup watching our favourite summer special movie/serial. I pressed the button reading 'G'(ground floor), summoning the lift down from the 6th floor. With a lazy creak the elevator started it's downward journey. " Hey guys, have you heard about the movie 'Conjuring'?...

Bright Morning - William Wordsworth

Image
'Bright Morning' is a comparatively  less known poem but, is the most charming and eye-catching for me. I had it as a part of my english curriculum in school, when asked to paraphrase it as a homework by the teacher, I felt that it was the best paraphrase I had ever written. So, let's talk about what exactly is a paraphrase. Paraphrasing  involves taking a set of facts or opinions and rewording them. While  paraphrasing , it is important to keep the original  meaning  and to present it in a new form. Basically, you are simply writing something in your own words that expresses the original idea. William Wordsworth is one of the most iconic poet known to mankind. His poems are beyond comparison and he never ceased to grab the reader's attention with the beauty and depth of his poems. One after the other, he wrote poems with each being better than the rest. Bright Morning There was a roaring in the wind all night; The rain came heavily a...

Another typical day

My days seem to be beginning with my sister screaming at the top of her voice" get up!!" while she simultaneously tries to snatch my blanket. (The only thing I love more than dark chocolate) I manage to ignore her and pull the blanket up, my head tucked in with the pillow placed strategically on my ear with the other one pressed on the covers firmly and persistently. when she finally gets annoyed and leaves, I smile in triumph gaining 15 more minutes of disturbance-less sleep.  No sooner that I begin to drift and fall asleep my phone begins to ring so loudly that I nearly yelp in surprise.I throw it away wishing the person at the other end gets the message and hangs up. But no! The persistent caller seems to have made up his mind and I muster all my strength and move my hands around like I am blind trying to search for my mobile. I pick it up look at the name, blink thrice (my eyes took a long time to get adapted with the room's brightness) "Shit!" I sc...

The Introduction

Image
From the name of my blog its not hard to guess the content. For me english is not just a language but also the first and only true love of my life. Today, when english is recognized as the international language used for communication, it's shocking to know that only 1.5 billion out of the staggering 7.5 billion speak english. To top it off, only 125 million Indians speak english of the colossal 1.32 billion.  So, I am aiming to be a teacher (of course I'll be teaching English)  but for the fear of losing touch with the language, I'll be blogging. I intend to write on creative writing topics like: speech, letter, story writing, essays, paraphrase, views and counterviews, expansion of ideas (explaining a quote, proverb or short poems in detail), reports, book reviews/movie reviews, dos and don'ts, dialogue writing and some anecdotes(real life incidents) So basically, it's all about learning and understanding the language. I'll ...
